Fall: Action and Stillness

Oops, I almost broke my promise. I'm supposed to put a link on here to each new post on my photography site... I did one a couple days ago, and NOW I'm telling you. ;)

So, here's the link: Fall: Action and Stillness

It's just a collection of random pictures I took one day, of the action of fall.... and the stillness. :) Hope you enjoy!

And since I JUST did a post on here yesterday, I'll put a link to that as well, in case you missed it... A Peak Inside My Art- Class Sketchbook

Photo Gallery: Last Days of Summer, Stars, Bubbles, and Spiders

Yes, that's a big title. But I needed to sum this post of random recent pictures of somehow. :) I think these pictures are organized according to the day\night I took them.

How has fall been coming in for you guys? It's been pure summer here still. :P Today I went and played with my two youngest siblings on the trampoline... and brought a squirt bottle of water out to keep us cool. It was SO hot. BUT... tomorrow it's supposed to cool down, finally! :D

Well, you can look at all my pictures now. Probably basically all the photography I've done since getting home. (not every picture, but, you know. ;) )

Little toes... :)

FLYING! 8D In other words, jumping on the trampoline, and I just crop it so you can't see that. :P It'd look much better without those telephone wires, but OH WELL.

Sometimes I really like black and white. :)

Spicy... have you ever had a cat still living at eight\nine years? She's such a good "kitty". ;)

BUBBLES! ;D

I've wanted to try taking star photography for awhile. (I had tried it before, and it didn't work, but I know more stuff now. ;D) So at last one night I went out in the dark with a tripod, and started trying to get good star pictures with a high shutter speed.

And I got a few fairly good ones. :D Yay! You have to sit very still while waiting for the camera to finish it's picture. Probably why the clouds streaked like that in the pic above- don't know if they were actually like that. ;)

Isn't it just great when you make a new photography accomplishment?! =D

Here's a pretty sunset...

... and a scary big spider! It had a big web on our porch. I probably got a little closer photographing it than I'd usually get to a big spider. :P (I cropped this picture, so it looks closer than in the original pic)

One of the cool old toy tractors my little siblings brought out of the woods. :)

I sharpened this picture on picmonkey- the bokeh is extra lovely! :)

The other day my little sister wanted to take pictures with an old camera... the one I started my photography love with. :) It's charger had been lost for a long time, but then they found it... and the camera still works! I think it got left outside once! The thing is a little survivor! :D
Here's our dog Daisy. She's around the same age as our cat- they're both survivors. :)

So these last ten picture on this post are from the day my and my little sister went out to take pictures. :)

There's that old surviving camera. :) I took a picture of her...
....while she took a picture of me. ;)

All the lovely bokeh! :)

We went into the corn field, too. It's now harvested...

And I found this treasure! :) Nice spider webs like this are a good photography opportunity, if you ask me.

Daisy getting a bell-rub. ;) Lucky dog.

I hope you enjoyed those pictures! :) I hope to do a September Highlights post, and show you all the stuff I've bought this month. :P And other things. Me and my siblings have been doing our home school co-op, where we have three classes at some church every Friday. I have an essay class (fun, right? ;) ), a trivia class, and an art class. The art one is more advanced (for me, anyhow) so I can get better at drawing and all! :D

I also want to finish getting all the posts about my summer vacations done sometime. Hopefully before mid-October!

Photography Tips: Catching Life in Action

Today I'm doing a post on action photography tips. What's a blog called Looking Through My Lens if it doesn't give tips on photography?! :D

So, I'm not an expert at action photos yet, but I still may be able to muster up some tips that'll help fellow amateur photographers. ;)

  1) USE A FAST SHUTTER SPEED

When the shutter speed is fast, it takes the picture fast, so, obviously, it freezes the motion better. :D

However, fast shutter speed can make the picture darker, especially on days that aren't very bright, so...

2) USE HIGHER ISO

OK, I'm not an expert at knowing what all this stuff is, but I do know that a higher ISO makes the picture brighter. And it makes the picture less quality or something, so only go higher when necessary, such as with firework pictures. I believe I used the highest ISO on my camera for this one above.

Combine that with fast shutter speed, and you have the camera taking pictures fast, and the ISO keeping the picture bright enough. :)
Now some random, lesser tips. ;)

3) PRESS THE SHUTTER BUTTON DOWN HALFWAY BEFORE THE ACTION COMES

Probably when you'd most need to do this is when you can't focus on your subject before it comes and is gone. So you just focus on the area where it'll be, press the shutter button down halfway, and snap the picture when the action comes.

4) BE READY!

Otherwise you may just miss the action. And what's the point of taking action pictures if you aren't ready and you miss all the action? :P

So get your settings adjusted beforehand!

5) DON'T USE FLASH

If you can avoid it, then avoid it. Flash action pictures don't always look the greatest, even if it helps freeze motion. So just adjust the shutter speed and ISO instead. :)

And here's a bonus picture that I rather like. The grass and field are all softly blurred, and it's just nice. :)

So there are a few tips! If you are trying to figure out how to get good action photos, I hope this helps. :)

Latest "Gallery" and Action Photography Practice

Hi, I'm back with another post! :) Welcome to November. This month has one of my favorite holidays- Thanksgiving!
Yea. The fall season goes on. The leaves fell so fast! I still haven't done my first real, real photo session. Hopefully there will still be some pretty trees when I do it.
Of course, we have the latest Photo Gallery of random pretty recent pictures:
This one is older, which is why there are so many golden leaves left on the tree. ;)

I think these top ones are a good definition of fall. A puddle on the brick steps and some autumn leaves scattered about... :)

This is quite a beautiful sunset. I zoomed way in, so the color is probably more enhanced than it would look seeing it in person, from farther back.
  But isn't God a magnificent sky-painter? :) This one's like a fire sunset.

These ones are with the silhouette of a new house being built along our little lane.

And now here are the action photos! :) I was excited to kind of learn how to get better action pictures. My brother showed me how to adjust the shutter speed, (though I'm still kind of confused over some of it), and I think its helping with clearer action shots! :) Which is what fast shutter speed dose, of course.
So here are a couple pictures. :)

Well, I hope you enjoyed this latest post. :)

If anyone has tips on action pictures, please comment! :)
